Lectures

We Are Nature

Nature connectedness is the extent to which individuals include nature as part of their identity. It includes an understanding of nature and everything it is made up of, even the parts that are not pleasing. Contact with, and psychological connectedness to the natural world are both associated with various health and sustainability-related outcomes. Research suggests that contact with nature can be beneficial, for example leading to improvements in mood, cognition, and general health.

Join our panellist as they discuss nature connectedness and associations with health, wellbeing and pro-environmental behaviours.

Decolonizing The Mind

In order to rebuild humanity, we have to break down colonized thinking. As a consequence of colonization, we have many subconscious biases, opinions and ideas that can be perceived as racist, classist and supporting white supremacy. Decolonization is a process by which individuals, groups or societies refuse to accept the colonial mindsets and norms. This process means becoming committed investigators of our own minds and questioning the validity of our own beliefs and assumptions.

Join our panellists as they discuss how to free our minds, bodies and souls from the grips of other people, culture and ideologies that have their agendas to influence, shape and dominate us.

Metta Compassion Meditation with Troy Backus

This workshop explores the basics of Metta meditation, also known as loving kindness or compassion meditation, and how it can be used as a tool to cultivate loving kindness in our own hearts and the hearts of those around us. Participants will be brought into a meditative state using mindfulness meditation techniques and subsequently shown how to practice compassion or loving kindness for one’s self and others. We will then invite and connect with other beings not present and shower them with love and compassion, exercising our heart connections from a distance and breaking down the illusion of separation. If time allows after learning the basic technique, we will continue to explore the link between this type of meditation and healing modalities, discussing ways these practices can be used to fill our own lives with compassion as well as heal our relationships, our loved ones, our society and our planet as a whole.

Troy Backus is a healer, teacher and international traveler from the United States. With a background in psychology and cultural anthropology, he has circumnavigated the globe to study with shamans and healers from around the world. Inspired to share with the global community and dedicated to fostering the values of loving kindness and acceptance, Troy now gives back by leading guided meditations and teaching healing modalities at transformational festivals and conscious events across the planet.

Honest Non Monogamy 101 with Mel Cassidy

This workshop will offer an overview of important things to consider if you are contemplating pursuing open relationships.

Open relationships? Polyamory? Relationship Anarchy? For many people, ethical and honest non monogamy is about freedom: freedom to love who you want, when you want, in whatever way feels authentic between adults and is mutually consensual. It has a rosy reputation for being about not putting limitations on whom or how you love, being able to acknowledge your needs and desires and dreams, knowing that to expect one person alone to fulfill all of them is way too much pressure.

But what’s the reality? How do the myths differ from the practical applications? How does it actually work in real life? Is non monogamy some enlightened approach to living, or simply another set of options for relating to other humans? Is there a Golden Path to polyamorous perfection, or is it a multilinear dance where we each get to decide what works for us as individuals?

When Mel began exploring non-monogamy she found there were a lot of myths and misconceptions around the practice of polyamory and open relationships. Now, as a relationship coach, she assists individuals and couples in navigating the terrain of open relating. Mel Cassidy is a relationship coach and sex-positive nerd who guides social misfits and cultural rebels to experiences of joyful, embodied, authentic open relationships.

Navigating Complex Relationship Dynamics with Mel Cassidy

Why Is This Threesome So Complicated?

For most people, one relationship alone is fraught with complex dynamics to navigate. Multiply the number of relationships, and things can get exponentially complicated − sometimes when you least expect it!

In this mini workshop, Mel will help us look at a different way of framing non-monogamous relationships, to help us understand the ways we participate in creating friction in our network − and how we can take action to resolve it. This will be useful for folks in polyamorous relationships, as well as people with kink-based relationships or swinging communities, and for folks managing complex relationships within blended families.

This session will include:

▪ How 3 people can have 19 relationships between them

▪ How to understand whose "stuff" is coming up when there’s conflict (hint: it’s often more than one person!)

▪ An overview of The Drama Triangle and Triangulation, and how to break free from it

Mel is certified in Counselling for Intimacy and Relationships, Holistic Peer Counselling, and is a ZEGG Forum facilitator. With over two decades of experience teaching and facilitating in groups small and large, Mel has a reputation for innovation, novelty, and both thinking and living outside the box. Mel is queer, experiences relationships as a solo polyamorous individual, and  lives, loves, and dances on the traditional and unceded territories of the K'ómoks Nation in British Columbia, Canada.

Zen Meditation with Joseph Pepe Danza

Zen meditation is about training our ability to be fully present in the moment. It has the potential to bring a whole new level of well being to our daily life, decrease stress, support health, and enhance productivity. The technique is powerful, simple, and won’t conflict with any religious affiliation. It’s about self knowledge and mastery of our mind, emotions, and how our body is affected by these. When supported by the sound of the Zen Flute, specifically designed to bring a deep state of relaxation and awareness, we can begin to cultivate an inner silence and peace that will help us sail through the most stressful and painful times, and enhance our enjoyment of happy moments by teaching us how to be in full presence. We will also gain more mastery over the conceptual mind by cultivating a deeper ability for concentration and clear thinking, thus making us more skillful in whatever sort of work we are involved in. We will start with an explanation of the philosophy and technique of Zazen, followed by a sitting, and a short question and answer period.

Pepe is an Uruguayan born Zen practitioner and musician presently residing in Slovakia. He  has been called by the media “Extreme Multi-Instrumentalist” and the “Embodiment of World Music”. Along with his professional music studies since the 60's around the globe, he was deepening his study and practice of Buddhism, started in North America and continued in India, with extended stays in Zen Temples. He had the honor of being nominated in Canada for countless awards as a performer, recording artist, and composer for theater, dance, and documentary films. The Art and Adventure of Lucid Dream with Sapphira Nan

As a species we have always had dreams. Humans have been practicing the art of dreaming longer than any religious or spiritual belief. Dream images have shaped our cultures, written our stories, given us cures for diseases, scientific advances and revolutionary ideas. If we listen, dreams provide us with insight into past, present and future, conscious and subconscious in ourselves and others. It is for our personal and collective evolution and a deeper understanding of our lives that we hear the pure creative guidance that communicates through our nighttime dreams. Dreams are gifts directly from Source, speaking in a language of pure imagination and potential, not bound by the perceived limits of our physical realm. To understand the way dreams communicate, having an open mind and heart to listen to the messages they bring. Work to remember our dreams, seeing patterns take shape, telling the stories of our existence

Loving Shadow Integration Journey with Orah Sergeant

A guided visualisation to gently embrace a part of the shadow. In this workshop we will go on a guided journey inwards to lovingly meet a part of yourself that we may have ignored or denied. We all have traits and aspects of our personalities which we judge as ‘not ok’, and we may battle with these aspects or keep them entirely repressed. But the more we can shine the loving light of our awareness and acceptance on them, the more we realise that this darkness was an illusion all along. And often these shadowy places are hiding some of our greatest gifts and powers. Drawing on techniques from the fields of reiki, meditation and hypnotherapy, this journey will help you to gently, lovingly integrate an aspect of your subconscious shadow and receive any gifts held there.

Orah has been gently exploring the realms of her own subconscious since early 2016, when her decade-long study of yoga and meditation led her to begin working with a hypnotherapist for the first time. She experienced incredibly profound healing this way, and in 2017 quit her work as a primary school teacher to follow a calling to retrain and serve in another way. A deep kundalini experience followed, and she began working with this energy through reiki studies in 2018. She has recently completed her reiki master, and over the last couple of years has developed her own intuitive blend of reiki and guided visualisation meditations to allow clients to access altered states of consciousness and experience healing. She specialises in visualisations that help clients fall deeper into self-love through inner child healing, energy work to release energetic ties that no longer serve and journeys to meet and integrate part of their shadows.

Setting Boundaries with Tjasa Strle

Are you familiar with the feeling of finding yourself again and again in a state when others don't acknowledge you? Do you feel that others exploit you, or are draining your energy? What are you feeling when that happens? A feeling that squeezes you in the stomach. Your body feels contracted. You get angry at the person who walks across your boundaries, but in reality, you are angry with yourself, because you are not being protective towards you. Now imagine that you learn to stand for yourself, to say no and feel good about it. It's a great feeling when you are true to yourself and you take care of you because you deserve it. Every time you say NO to something that doesn't work for you, the possibility of saying YES to something that brings you joy, opens. Self-care means setting boundaries. Being totally in charge of your life is knowing and communicating with others without feeling guilty about it. It's important for our well-being, now more than ever, to set healthy boundaries in order not to get overwhelmed and stressed. Even more, knowing our boundaries and having the courage to say them out loud, is the necessity for all of our relationships. Especially if we want to have fulfilling relationships - be it in our private life or at work. Come and join us, share your challenges, and learn how you can get what you want and feel good about it. I have been teaching boundaries for more than 20 years and worked with more than 1.000 people across different industries. I’m also a facilitator, motivator and communicator, and above all a researcher of endless possibilities and learning environments, as well as a lifelong learner. ABOUT US

We are a collective of dreamers who love to investigate the boundaries of human existence and bring out the best of experiencing life. It's our passion to connect people, empower and inspire them to explore themselves and bring positive transformation to all of our lives. All our work is volunteer-based and we are continuing in our collaboration to keep this project going. We’re a community of festival goers, creatives, artists and musicians, local and international, coming together to create something new. Anthropos Festival is 100% volunteer-run. We are in a process of learning and discovering new ways to organise ourselves and run the decision making horizontally, without hierarchy. Everyone can become a part of the crew, partake on development of the festival and community, share their knowledge or do a project. We aim to highlight the very best of the human experience; we believe that everyone’s voice is important and brings something unique to this reality that we shape together. We welcome everyone to join us in shaping a beautiful and inclusive future. We wish to bring out the importance of being present in the moment and being aware of yourself to our everyday lives, to grow as individuals and as a whole. This is a quest we are on as a collective and we offer support to each other to help us materialise our visions. There are several projects at different stages running parallel to the creation of Anthropos Festival, so we are really excited about what the future will bring. If you feel like you want to contribute to our story, we kindly invite you to contact us.
